Practice Philosophy

Since 1990 I have had the opportunity to provide quality healthcare to patients in the Rocky Mountain region.  My goal is to provide accurate diagnoses and effective treatments based on individual patient's needs.  Our bodies know how to heal. My job is to assist that healing process by normalizing muscle and joint function which in turn assists the nervous system to be as efficent as possible.  Because of the shared neural pathways of the musculoskeletal system with the organs, we can in turn affect how the entire being operates.

About Me
IMG_3407.jpeg

Although I was born in Denver, my childhood was spent in Yankton, South Dakota.  Spending time in nature and playing sports were favorite pastimes until at the age of twelve, I sustained a severe spinal injury that almost led me to a spinal fusion. A chiropractic adjustment saved me from that surgical procedure.  It left a big imprint on me.

My love of science led me to attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where I studied chemistry and geology for four years.  Medical school was next on my agenda.  I scrapped that idea and decided to study the body from a chiropractic angle. I graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1989.

After moving to Denver in 1990, I set up my practice and have been fortunate enough to assist many people with a variety of health issues.

My passions are hiking, rock hunting, bird watching, listening to music, and spending time with my family, friends, and two Cairn terriers.

NIMMO RECEPTOR TONUS TECHNIQUE

APPLIED KINESIOLOGY

Applied kinesiology is a system that evaluates the structural, chemical, and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing combined wih other standard methods of diagnosis. Treatments may involve specfic joint manipulation, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, clinical nutrition, dietary management, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures. Evaluating these three aspects of health, increases the ability to find the underlying cause of a patient's health problem.

PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC MODALITIES

  • Cold laser therapy or low-level laser therapy is a type of phototherapy designed to repair tissue, reduce pain and inflammation by stimulating all types of cells to promote the body's natural healing process.

  • Percusser therapy is a vibrational therapy used to release myofascial adhesions.

  •  Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves to reduce pain and inflammation by increasing circulation.

NUTRITIONAL ADVICE

Dr. Geersen suggests dietary changes to facilitate the healing process.  Occasionally, nutritional and herbal supplementation recommendations are made to assist in overcoming various health issues.

Developed by Dr. Nimmo in the early 1900's, this technique uses pressure points to alter the length of muscles to help normalize joint function.  It is a very safe and effective method to treat painful trigger points that are created by postural or chemical imbalances or trauma. This work ties in with Dr. Janet Travell's myofascial dysfunction trigger point discovery and research.

PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC EXERCISES

Specific stretching and strengthening exercises are added to each patient's treatment plan to help prevent various structural issues from returning.  We like to make this a collaborative effort.

Susan is exceptional.  She is wise, compassionate, and gentle.  She is more than a chiropractor.  She is a healer.  She keeps me tuned up so I can pursue my active lifestyle and passions for playing and coaching tennis.  I am truly grateful to know her.

Dr. G is amazing.  She is not only medically knowledgable but incredibly intuitive about the body.  When other docs couldn't help out, Dr. G figured it out and made a huge difference in my healing.

Dr. Geersen has helped me learn so much about my health without a lifetime of pills or procedures and how to make continued good choices to maintain that well-being. Along with sound medical practices and gentle chiropractic, she listens and strives to educate.

~Joni H. in Aurora, CO

Finally! I found a chiropractor who listens and does whole body work. She explains what she is doing and why, gives me specfic exercises to work on between appointments, and  adds supplements on occasion. I especially love that she is not a "snap/crackle/pop" doctor.  I rarely give 5 stars across the board, but it's well deserved with this doctor.
